Video: Al Sharpton wants FCC to ban Rush Limbaugh

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.-1st amendment to the US Constitution
The FCC is the government and Sharpton wants it to abridge the freedom of speech. And of the press. Again. Via Gateway Pundit:
“We’re not going to stand by and let publicly regulated radio and television just go for marketing and promoting this kind of racism.”

“Rush Limbaugh has the right to say whatever he wants to say, he does not have the right, though, to do it on publicly regulated airwaves. The FCC has the responsibility to set standards.”

“We’re not telling Rush don’t say what you want to say, say it at home, not on public airwaves.”
Those are quite ironic quotes from a guy whose rhetoric has lead to the deaths of several people. What standard does he want the FCC to adopt? If they ban any speech that offends anyone, then they will have to ban all speech. Outside of swear words, the FCC has no business imposing liberalism which is what Sharpton wants. Related is this from Ed Morrissey: Why doesn’t the media report on lib-talker lunacy? Why isn't Sharpton trying to pull these guys?:

Since late 2007, the Media Research Center has collected numerous examples of the outrageousness of left-wing radio hosts. And, unlike the Left — which attempted to smear Rush Limbaugh with phony quotes — readers can find an audio or video of every one of these quotes posted at our Web site: www.MRC.org.

This report includes examples of over-the-top rhetoric from left-wing hosts Mike Malloy, Stephanie Miller, Randi Rhodes, Ron Reagan, Jr., Ed Schultz and Montel Williams, all of whom currently or at one time broadcast to a national audience on either the Air America network or via XM and/or Sirius satellite radio. Among the lowlights:

■ Conservatives Want to Kill Barack Obama: “I really think there are conservative broadcasters in this country who would love to see Obama taken out.” (Ed Schultz)
The face of true hate

■ Conservatives Are Terrorists: “Do you not understand that the people you hold up as heroes bombed your goddamn country? Do you not understand that Glenn Beck and Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh and Bill O’Reilly are as complicit of the September 11, 2001 terror attack as any one of the dumbass 15 who came from Saudi Arabia?” (Mike Malloy)

■ Conservatives Want You to Die: “If, in fact, the GOP doesn’t like any form of health care reform, what do we do with those 40 to 60 million uninsured?…When they show up in the emergency room, just shoot ‘em! Kill them!…Do we have enough body bags? I don’t know.” (Montel Williams)

■ Conservative Congresswoman Would Have Liked the Holocaust: “[Representative Michele Bachmann is] a hatemonger. She’s the type of person that would have gladly rounded up the Jews in Germany and shipped them off to death camps….This is an evil bitch from Hell.” (Mike Malloy)

■ Dick Cheney Eats Babies: “Cheney, by the way, looks very ruddy. I couldn’t get over that. Like, he must have feasted on a Jewish baby, or a Muslim baby. He must have sent his people out to get one and bring it back so he could drink its blood.” (Mike Malloy)

■ Dick Cheney Should Die: “He is an enemy of the country, in my opinion. Dick Cheney is an enemy of the country….Lord, take him to the Promised Land, will you? See, I don’t even wish the guy goes to Hell, I just want to get him the hell out of here.” (Ed Schultz)

■ Rush Limbaugh Should Die: “I’m waiting for the day when I pick up the newspaper or click on the Internet and find that he’s choked to death on his own throat fat, or a great big wad of saliva or something, whatever. Go away, Limbaugh, you make me sick.” (Mike Malloy)

■ Michele Bachmann Should Die: “So, Michele, slit your wrist! Go ahead! I mean, you know, why not? I mean, if you want to — or, you know, do us all a better thing. Move that knife up about two feet. I mean, start right at the collarbone.” (Montel Williams)

If the establishment media were really interested in cleansing the airwaves of hateful rhetoric, they would not confine their criticism to conservative hosts. Instead, they would — and they must — make an equal effort to expose the nastiness that runs rampant on left-wing talk radio. Unless and until they do, they are participating in an act of journalistic hypocrisy.
And how about this recent winner from Malloy: Audio: Liberal talkshow host Mike Maloy to Liz Cheney: "Go Plan Your Father's Funeral" What say you, Sharpton?

RIP: Elizabeth Edwards dies of cancer today

I didn't much agree with anything Elizabeth Edwards, but at this point in time, I wish her family peace on this day. Cancer claimed her life after a long struggle. I don't know what caused her more grief, the cancer or her douchebag ex-husband. I'm thinking probably the latter. For her part, she was a loyal wife. From The Politico via memeorandum: Elizabeth Edwards dies of cancer
Elizabeth Edwards, who remade the role of the political spouse for a new media age, died Tuesday at her home in Chapel Hill, N.C., after a six-year struggle with cancer.

Edwards, a lawyer, best-selling author and the wife of former U.S. Sen. John Edwards, was 61.

"Today we have lost the comfort of Elizabeth's presence, but she remains the heart of this family," her family said in a statement. "We love her and will never know anyone more inspiring or full of life. On behalf of Elizabeth, we want to express our gratitude to the thousands of kindred spirits who moved and inspired her along the way. Your support and prayers touched our entire family."

Edwards was the driving force behind her husband’s steep rise in half a decade from gifted trial lawyer to the Democratic Party’s 2004 vice presidential nominee, and she was the strategist, the campaign manager, surrogate and public interpreter for a man who never seemed to emerge fully from behind his pitch-perfect political performances. While John Edwards began and ended his public career as a cipher to the American public and even to some of his close aides, Elizabeth’s charm, intelligence, and even her public vindictiveness put her on a first-name basis with the nation.
The Politico includes this video:
Rest in peace, Elizabeth. My prayers are with your family tonight.

Audio: My interview on radio regarding the Chevy Volt mileage fraud

After my Pajamas Media article (PJM Article: Chevy Volt, Nissan Leaf Actually Get Only 23, 25 MPG) went viral, I was asked to do two radio interviews as follow-ups. Here's one that I did just this morning (early this morning) with Rob Johnson on "The Rob Johnson Show" on WGST-Atlanta:
Yesterday morning I had one on 1310 KFKA Colorado with Justin Sasso and George Gray:
I wish I would have had time in either interview to get into how dirty lithium mining is, but anyway.

Video of Dan Rather: Obama will face primary challenge if he caves on taxes

The committed liberal is still hanging around even after being drummed out of the establishment MSM not for false reporting but for getting caught false reporting. As with most liberals, Dan Rather can't stand the thought of people keeping more of their own money:
Dan Rather about to quit smoking the Hopeium? You betcha! Ed Morrissey points out the humorous shock that liberals have right now realizing what the rest of us have known since Obama came onto the scene - he has zero leadership skills (or any other skills for that matter):
Rather’s hardly the first to notice this, of course. Frank Rich argued this weekend that Obama was a victim of Stockholm Syndrome as an explanation for Obama’s lack of leadership, which has more than enough silliness in it for rebuttal, including the claim that the Bush tax cuts in 2001 and 2003 were the single greatest contributor to the deficits, even though tax revenues went up afterward and that government didn’t own the money in the first place.

Another Obama fraud: Federal pay freeze plan wouldn't stop raises. 1.1 million employees will receive more than $2.5 billion in raises during that period

That pay freeze for federal employees already thawed. It was just another Obama rhetorical gimmick devoid of reality. The reality is that federal employees will be receiving a $2.5 billion pay raise at our expense this next year. The pay freeze you see, didn't freeze step increases. From Federal Times: Federal pay freeze plan wouldn't stop raises. Some freeze:
President Obama spoke of the need for sacrifice last week when he announced a two-year pay freeze for federal employees.

But feds won't be too terribly deprived in 2011 and 2012. Despite the freeze, some 1.1 million employees will receive more than $2.5 billion in raises during that period.

Congress is expected to approve Obama's proposal, which cancels only cost-of-living adjustments for two years. Regularly scheduled step increases for the 1.4 million General Schedule employees — who make up two-thirds of the civilian work force — will continue. The size of those increases ranges from 2.6 percent to 3.3 percent and by law kick in every one, two or three years, depending on an employee's time in grade.

...Rep. Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, called the retention of step increases a hole in Obama's plan. He also said the administration should freeze hiring and reduce the federal payroll from $447 billion to $400 billion.
$447 BILLION?!?! Good grief!
"Somehow, someway I think this country can survive on just a $400 billion payroll," Chaffetz said. He is the ranking Republican on the House Oversight and Government Reform subcommittee on the federal work force, and could become chairman when Republicans take control of the House next year.

In addition to General Schedule employees receiving step increases, some of the government's roughly 187,000 wage-grade employees also will receive step increases.

And many employees will receive promotions, which also come with salary increases, Jeffrey Zients, the Office of Management and Budget's deputy director for management, said last week.

Many senior employees won't get raises, but will receive bonuses for good performance, although OMB and the Office of Personnel Management are telling agencies to cap bonuses at 2010 levels. OPM said it does not yet have information on fiscal 2010 bonuses, but the Asbury Park Press of New Jersey reported in June that the government paid $408 million in bonuses to 359,400 people, an average $1,135 each, in fiscal 2009.
Bonuses at taxpayer expense. Funny how generous liberals are with other people's money when they aren't with their own.

Single-Payer Hell: British mom dies of cancer while waiting 3 month for CT scan

With ObamaCare on its way to full implementation by 2014, get ready to wait in line for months. Do you want to who will be waiting for you at the end of the line? Idiot community organizers wanting to give you a pain pill rather than a pacemaker:
So get ready for stories on this side of the pond like the nightmares in Britain. From the UK Daily Mail:
A mother has died of stomach cancer after her GP and ten doctors failed to diagnose the disease.

Angela Skeffington had reported classic stomach cancer symptoms since April but was not given a specialist CT scan until late August, when the disease was finally spotted.

But by then the cancer had spread to her liver and lymph nodes and Mrs Skeffington, 44, from Birmingham was told she only had weeks to live.

Her angry relatives have now attacked the NHS for failing to diagnose the cancer earlier.

...Speaking after she was first diagnosed with terminal cancer, Mrs Skeffington, who lived with partner John, had said: 'I was made to feel like a nuisance by all the doctors.

'I was treated worse than an animal.'

...a Heartlands Hospital spokeswoman said: 'We would again like to apologise to Mrs Skeffington's family and send them our sincerest condolences.
ObamaCare is creating a huge doctor shortage, and is cutting Medicare reimbursement rates thus removing doctors from the system via attrition. The supply of doctors was already stretched. How did Obama believe that dumping 30 million people into the system wouldn't 'save or create' a shortage? Did he not see what happened in Massachusetts?
No government-run healthcare system embodies all that is wrong and unholy with the very concept of Obamacare more than Britain's barbaric, medieval, hellhole the National Health Service (NHS), the 3rd largest employer in the world with more bureaucrats on the payroll than doctors. In Britain, under the draconian NHS, cancer patients are denied life-saving drugs to save money, millions of operations are being slated for cancellation to save money, wives have to go on hunger strikes to get their spouses car, Alzheimer's patients are denied coverage because the disease is not classified as a health condition, the ambulance service gets paid to NOT take patients to hospitals, patients are encouraged to email doctors rather than visit, patients are denied  life-extending drugs because of the expense, broken arms sometimes take up to 10 months to fix, patients are left on operating tables for lack of equipment, babies born prematurely are left to die if they come out before a certain date, terminally ill patients, and some that are not ill at all, are put on a fast track to death, grandmas are left to die of starvation, patients with chest pains are sent home with pain pills only to die later that same day, patients are denied water only to die later of dehydration, women give birth on the pavement, and in hospital toilets and hallways, and prisoners eat better than NHS patients. More than 1 million people are subject to neglectful care and surgeries have failure rates up to 33%, with some surgeries done or not done in error, the infirm are routinely neglected and patients die routinely due to filth and blood-splattered equipment. For many, the only thing standing between them and deranged 3rd world doctors shipped into Britain to save money is a nurse. The horror stories go on and on. BUT... NHS does have money to have violent child predators put on Viagra, and to irreversibly mutilate 12-year olds. Oh yeah - the bureaucrats exempt themselves from NHS and instead get private coverage. Just like in ObamaCare! If you yourself try to get even a private consultation? They'll bar you from necessary surgery. Take that you anti-socialist scum!

On a tip from Terry G on FB

Obama is no Christian: By executive order, faith-based organizations may no longer conduct worship services while providing social programs funded with federal money

I have said many times in this blog that Obama is not only not a Christian, but he is anti-Christian. He sympathizes with Islam and and is holding his boot on the throat of Christian religious expression. This news went way, way under the radar as it was quietly released during Thanksgiving week. From Courthouse News Service: No More Sermons at the Soup Kitchen
Illegal activity according to Obama
...President Obama has amended a 2002 Executive Order from President George W. Bush that allowed faith-based social programs to get federal aid.

Bush's order allowed religious services to be conducted at the same time and in the same place as the social program offered, so long as the service itself was not supported by the money allocated to the social program.

Thus, visitors to a soup kitchen run by a church might hear a sermon while getting their food.

President Obama's amendment mandates separation of the two activities, in time or place, and forbids making participation in a religious activity a requirement for receiving the benefits of the federally funded program.

The amendments also require the government to "monitor and enforce standards regarding the relationship between religion and government in ways that avoid excessive entanglement between religious bodies and governmental entities."
'Entanglement?' The 1st amendment to the US Constitution reads "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances." Where does the word 'entanglement' appear there? And if the Congress can make no law prohibiting the free expression of religion, what law will they be breaking?
Religious organizations will have to refer beneficiaries of federally funded programs who object to the religious character of the program provider to an alternative provider within a "reasonable period of time."

To enforce the new requirements, the amendment creates the Interagency Working Group on Faith-Based and Other Neighborhood Partnerships, which is charged with writing rules to implement the changes across the government and all organizations that receive federal funding.
This isn't separation of church and state, words not in the US Constitution, it is a separation between faith and state, something antithesis to what the Founding Fathers planned for us. In May I wrote this post: Good grief! Seniors Barred from Praying Before Meals at Nursing Home Because Meals Are Subsidized By Feds. Our the government was set up in part to promote, but not establish, Christianity - the true religion. After all, the pilgrims sailed here for that very reason, no? It's worthy to note that Thomas Jefferson himself made federal money available for the building of churches and the printing of Bibles. By the way, where do our unalienable rights originate from exactly? We need only look at history:

Good news: US government now literally burning money

Good grief:
The U.S. government has halted production of its new, technologically advanced $100 bills due to an issue with the presses that print U.S. money.

A Yahoo! Blog post states that the flawed bills cost approximately $120 million to print and add up to $10 billion – more than 10-percent of our total money supply. And because the flaw cannot be repaired, the bills will now have to be burned. If we saved the quarantined bills from fiery doom and instead put them to use in paying off our massive $13 trillion debt, the government would have to goof up approximately 1,300 more times before our debt would be paid off.

We’ve been figuratively burning money for years, but now we’re literally burning money?” said Flake.
Not only is the government incompetent in spending our money, they are incompetent at counterfeiting it. From the Yahoo! post: Government can’t print money properly
Pretty much what our government is doing too
Because of a problem with the presses, the federal government has shut down production of its flashy new $100 bills, and has quarantined more than 1 billion of them -- more than 10 percent of all existing U.S. cash -- in a vault in Fort Worth, Texas, reports CNBC.

"There is something drastically wrong here," one source told CNBC. "The frustration level is off the charts."

...More than 1 billion unusable bills have been printed. Some of the bills creased during production, creating a blank space on the paper, one official told CNBC. Because correctly printed bills are mixed in with the flawed ones, even the ones printed to the correct design specs can't be used until they 're sorted. It would take an estimated 20 to 30 years to weed out the defective bills by hand, but a mechanized system is expected to get the job done in about a year.

Combined, the quarantined bills add up to $110 billion -- more than 10 percent of the entire U.S. cash supply, which now stands at around $930 billion.

The flawed bills, which cost around $120 million to print, will have to be burned.
Burning money - pretty much the only thing the government is actually good at these days...

December 7th, 1941: A date which will live in infamy. Pearl Harbor 69 years ago today

A day that will always live in infamy, remembered by everyone except Google:
69 years ago the Japanese attacked us while most slept, declaring war on the U.S. after the attack (which was antithesis to the samurai code of honor). America hasn't been attacked in such a horrific manner until 9/11. With the attack, the Japanese Empire sealed its fate on that morning. It was the beginning of their end. Here are some Pearl Harbor videos I dug up on YouTube:
You wonder if a Pearl Harbor were to happen on this day, if the 'progressives' would have the stomach for doing what needs to be done.

Video: Obama can't pronounce 'Superfluous'

Note to teleprompter: Obama decrees that the word superfluous is never to appear again. This won't get too much play through the establishment MSM (I give it one day), but just imagine the headlines if this were George W Bush:

Video: Sterling Hts Mayor Richard Notte likens Chrysler expansion to sex, calls ceremony "foreplay"

Chrysler's Sterling Heights Assembly Plant (SHAP) is expanding and hiring more workers because it's the Christmas season and tens of billions in taxpayers bailout money, but mostly because of tens of billions in taxpayers bailout money. Granholm was at the expansion ceremony, kissed a car, and touted the 900 workers expected to be hired at SHAP, because that will totally make up for the 1,000,000 jobs that she admitted to losing in the last 8 years. But Democrat Sterling Heights Mayor Richard Notte stole the show by comparing the expansion to sex, and the ceremony to foreplay (an 'old fashioned,' heavy petting, what?). The video of the Don of Sterling Heights - looking like a Tauron from Caprica - via My Fox Detroit:
I said it was almost (as) good as sex. Today is the foreplay before the exciting things that are going to happen to this plant. -Sterling Heights Mayor Richard Notte
Note above that the establishment media, er... ate it up. "Notte's colorful analogy perfectly captured the celebratory mood?" Wha??? I've been to a few celebrations in my time. At not a single one of those did I think it equivalent to sex, or even foreplay. As for the new hires at Chrysler, I hope they hire better than these 2 mindless SHAP drones that I interviewed at a tea party last year:
That tax increase passed by the way, pushed through by the same Richard Notte above. Since Notte likes sex analogies so much, it's fair to point out that Sterling Heights residents got bilked to pay for unsustainable union benefits - in essence they got screwed.
Richard Notte - the Don of Sterling Heights, and a Tauron from Caprica
UPDATE: On the plus side, at least Notte didn't call Granholm Gran-MOLE like GM's CEO did last week:
So there's that.

Video: Obama Snubs ‘In God We Trust’ as US Motto

15"Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. 16By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? 17Likewise every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. 19Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them. - Matthew 7 (NIV)
What kind of Christian is Obama? Judge by his fruit. Via BreitbartTV: "Members of Congress on Monday called on President Obama to issue a public correction after he incorrectly labeled E pluribus unum the U.S.'s motto in a speech last month, rather than "In God We Trust."":
This after Obama couldn't bring himself to admit that our own Declaration of Independence mentions explicitly The Creator:
Our community organizer-in-chief, who claims claimed to be a Christian during the campaign, made sure to thank other people in his Thanksgiving proclamation last year, but not Almighty God. He was the first President not to directly acknowledge Gos in a Thanksgiving proclamation in history. But with all that in tow, Obama claims this: Pro-infanticide Obama says "I pray every night, read the Bible". He blames the internet for Americans being confused about his faith. I have bo doubt that he has faith, but it's all vested in the church of liberalism. Not only is Obama's faith not Christian, it is anti-Christian. And Obama's actions betray his rhetoric. By his actions, he despises God.

Couple reject abortion after online vote

This story just made me sick when it broke the other week. A couple went online and asked strangers to vote on whether they should butcher their unborn child or let him or her live. Tails we kiss the baby. Heads we fillet the baby and flush it down the toilet. It is emblematic of how far our culture - once firmly rooted in Christianity - has fallen. The value of life has fallen even farther than our currency. So after the online poll, the couple decide to let the baby live so that he or she can grow up and find out that his or her parents are demonic ghouls. From USA Today:
After tallying more than 2 million votes for and against an abortion, Pete and Alisha Arnold say they plan to have a baby.

The Apple Valley, Minn., couple put the decision to a vote on a website, birthornot.com, that they say got hundreds of thousands of duplicate votes, drew criticism online around the world and got her fired from her job.

"There's always a cost to speaking out," Pete Arnold says.

He says that when the 2,006,363 votes were limited to one per IP address, or 278,084 individual computers, 74% were for having a baby and 26% for an abortion. The duplicates, he says, made the vote 78%-22% in favor of abortion.
In other word, other twisted ghouls came out of the woodwork to get the baby killed. Nice. Speaking of, here's the twisted dad:
Pete Arnold says the website did unintentionally "minimalize in some regards the whole choice thing," but it also "put a face on it. It's not a random statistic," he says of the fetus that already has a nickname. "It's baby Wiggles."
Baby Wiggles ought to be thankful that technology exists to filter IP addresses. W will find out in time that mom and dad held him or her over a pit of spears and invited strangers to cut the string. Just for kicks. Ironically, USA Today posted this picture of the couple and presumably baby Wiggles visiting a Roman aqueduct that is symbolic of a culture long dead because of their decent into depravity:

Video: Kathy Griffin Gets Booed By U.S. Troops After Calling Bristol Palin Fat

Palin Derangement Syndrome lives on unabated. But there's a time and place to show one's derangement. And there's a time and place not to. This is one of those latter places:
The ribald and unconventional comedian set the tone for the night when she joked about Bristol Palin and her supposed weight gain while competing with Dancing With The Stars. But the joke fell flat, as the military men and woman in attendance lustily booed the host for taking a shot at Sarah Palin’s daughter.

Video of Obama FCC Commissioner Mignon Clyburn: Free Internet a Civil Right for ‘Every Nappy-Headed Child’

Remember when Imus was fired for his 'nappy-headed hoes' comment? Imus was white and even though he supported minority causes with his own money, he was drummed out. Jim Clyburn's daughter who is a chip off the old block won't have such a problem with these kooky comments:
via BreitbartTV. For the liberal, it is getting easier to ask what is not a fundamental human right. Well why not? Moonbats have already put out the insane proposition that milling your unborn baby is a fundamental human right. Europe says the same of vacations. Why not the internet? From moonbattery: Do-Gooders Declare Internet to Be a Human Right
Most causes advanced by do-gooders sound great — until you give a moment's thought to where their underlying assumptions will lead. For example:
If you're looking to do something good for a change, the NGO A Human Right, which believes "equal, universal, uninhibited Internet access is a human right," is in the process of raising $150k in order to purchase "the most capable communications satellite put into space" so they can use it to provide poor people with free Internet service.
Follow the link to A Human Right and you will be greeted by a splash screen yelling that "IF YOU CAN READ THIS YOU ARE VERY LUCKY." Wrong. If you can read it, you got out of bed in the morning, went to work, and earned the money to pay for Internet service. Unless you pay your bills with lottery winnings, luck has nothing to do with it.

It would be nice if everyone had Internet service, but to call it a right subverts real rights. When socialists like Barack Hussein Obama declare that healthcare is a human right, they mean that the government has a right to force some to pay for the goods and services consumed by others — that is, by saying that you have a "right" to healthcare or Internet service, statists are saying that you do not have a right to your own labor and property.
Good grief.

Video: Death tax to come roaring back Jan 1, from 0% to 55%. "Die soon!"

The death tax is fundamentally unfair because 1) the money taxed is being taxed a second time, and 2) small businesses will be shuttered because they can't pay that big of a tax bill. In no way does the estate tax help the economy:

Predictable: Bankrupt Greek government to escalate mosque building for Muslims

What's a bankrupt country that needed an EU bailout to do? Why spend more money of course. Not just on any priority, mind you. No. In addition to committing economic suicide, Greece is also committing cultural suicide. From Creeping Sharia: Broke Greek govt to escalate mosque building for Muslims
No money for Greek citizens, but money to build mosques to satisfy the jihad demands of Muslim immigrants. Dhimmitude. via Quickie mosque in Greece to meet Muslim demand: Report.
ATHENS, Dec 4, 2010 (AFP) – Greek authorities will speed up plans to build a new mosque in Athens to satisfy a long-standing demand by Muslim residents that has sparked tension in recent months, a report said on Saturday.

Top-selling Ta Nea daily said the government is expected to fund the temporary mosque to be erected within six months in a disused navy base in Elaionas, an industrial district near the city centre.

...All traces of Islam were eradicated in Athens in the early 19th century when Christianity was restored, and bureaucratic wrangling and opposition from local church leaders and mayors have since stalled plans for a mosque and cemetery.
Just another case of history repeating.
And it's happening here in the US too as the government is pushing for the Ground Zero mosque while quashing the rebuilding of a Greek Orthodox Church that was destroyed on 911. From USA Today: Church left out of 9/11 renewal
Nine years after it was destroyed in the 9/11 terrorist attacks, the little Greek Orthodox church that stood across the street from the twin towers is farther away than ever from being rebuilt.

Slow progress toward a new home halted last year when the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which controls the Ground Zero site, broke off discussions with the church over where and how a new church would be built.
Bunch of darned dhimmis offering their heads.

And on the cultural suicide aspect of what Greece is doing:

2010: the warmest year on record that wasn't

Last year, the prediction was that 2010 will be the warmest year on record. Last Thanksgiving, the AP was ringing the global warming alarm bells (again) right when the CRU scandal was unfolding: AP ignores CRU emails, instead says global warming accelerating! Quotes people in CRU emails! So much for that meme. From the UK Daily Mail: What happened to the 'warmest year on record': The truth is global warming has halted
A year ago tomorrow, just before the opening of the UN Copenhagen world climate summit, the British Meteorological Office issued a confident prediction. The mean world temperature for 2010, it announced, 'is expected to be 14.58C, the warmest on record' - a deeply worrying 0.58C above the 19611990 average.
My guess is that average is a wee bit high, but anyway. And speaking of Copenhagen, there's this: Wikileaks Documents Show Obama Administration Used Spying, Threats & Bribes to Get Support for Copenhagen Accord. It's the Chicago way. Further:
Last week, halfway through yet another giant, 15,000delegate UN climate jamboree, being held this time in the tropical splendour of Cancun in Mexico, the Met Office was at it again.

Never mind that Britain, just as it was last winter and the winter before, was deep in the grip of a cold snap, which has seen some temperatures plummet to minus 20C, and that here 2010 has been the coolest year since 1996.

Globally, it insisted, 2010 was still on course to be the warmest or second warmest year since current records began.

But buried amid the details of those two Met Office statements 12 months apart lies a remarkable climbdown that has huge implications - not just for the Met Office, but for debate over climate change as a whole.

Read carefully with other official data, they conceal a truth that for some, to paraphrase former US VicePresident Al Gore, is really inconvenient: for the past 15 years, global warming has stopped.
Readers of this blog shouldn't be surprised. From a February post of mine: ClimateGate chief scientist admits: There has been NO GLOBAL WARMING SINCE 1995!!!

...with the exception of 1998 - a 'blip' year when temperatures spiked because of a strong 'El Nino' effect (the cyclical warming of the southern Pacific that affects weather around the world) - the data on the Met Office's and CRU's own websites show that global temperatures have been flat, not for ten, but for the past 15 years.

They go up a bit, then down a bit, but those small rises and falls amount to less than their measuring system's acknowledged margin of error. They have no statistical significance and reveal no evidence of any trend at all.
The whole thing is a fraud. And even the fraudsters that fudged data are admitting to temperature history that they used to say didn't happen:
Earlier this year, a paper by Michael Mann - for years a leading light in the IPCC, and the author of the infamous 'hockey stick graph' showing flat temperatures for 2,000 years until the recent dizzying increase - made an extraordinary admission: that, as his critics had always claimed, there had indeed been a ' medieval warm period' around 1000 AD, when the world may well have been hotter than it is now.
Many including myself have always been suspicious of the hockey stuck graph for the simple reason that it did not match up at all with data collected in Europe:
Perhaps what has doomed the ClimateGate fraudsters the most was their brazenness in fudging the data. It wasn't just the temperature reconstruction of the past from tree rings, ice cores and other indirect methods, but their current system of fudging actual direct temperature data from weather stations and their placement in urban environments that tend to be warmer due to artificial structures while intentionally not putting sensors away from civilization that would show true surface temperature. Here's just on example of 'hiding the decline' in surface temperature data:
Global warming is at the bottom of the priority list of Americans, and rightfully so:
In essence, the jig is up.

Here is the animated gif that was put together:

Video: Sen Jon Kyle Repeatedly Corrects Bob Schieffer: No Tax ‘Cuts’ for Rich, Just Extending Existing Rates

Rhetoric is the favored game of the liberal mind. Calling one thing something else has become an art form for those that went from creating new jobs to 'creating and saving' them. From spending money to 'investing' it. Which brings us to tax rates. Almost 10 years ago now, the tax rates were changed for all income earners. This was known as a tax cut. But now, with rates set to increase for all wage earners, the rhetoric is 'extending tax cuts' rather than keeping marginal rates where they have been. Kyle is right to correct Schieffer:
via BreitbartTV. The best case scenario here is that nobody sees a tax increase. The worst: everyone pays more in taxes. Under no scenario will anyone pay less in 2011 than they did in 2010. There are no cuts here. Just the possibilities of tax hikes, which the voters have rejected a month ago:

Ted Turner: Obama made ‘Big Mistake’ by ramming through ObamaCare rather than cap-and-trade

Ted Turner believes we should kill our economy which will do nothing to solve a problem that doesn't exist. Human activity, after all, is responsible for only 3% of CO2 emissions, the vast majority being produced by oceans and vegetation decaying. Before the current news, a bit of Turner history from the memory hole: Video of Ted Turner: If we don't stop global warming "then we’ll be extinct. And when that happens we’ll be sorry”. I'm not sure how a dead civilization can be sorry about anything, but anyway. In any case, Turner is quite the disciple of environmentalism. He came out yesterday blasting Obama for not shoving cap-and-trade down our throats. From Bloomberg via drudge:
U.S. President Barack Obama made a “big mistake” in pushing health-care legislation before climate change, billionaire Ted Turner said today.

We would have an energy climate change bill in the United States if President Obama had made that his top priority and brought that to the American people and Congress first rather than the health-care bill,” Turner, founder of Time Warner Inc.’s CNN, said today at a conference in Cancun, Mexico. “But he didn’t, and I think it was a big mistake.”
This is the same conference where the UN delegates were praying to a pagan god. (Why the hell not? United Nations global warming negotiators pray to a Mayan god)
...“The climate bill is much more important than health care because the climate situation is about life and death whereas the health-care bill was much more limited,” Turner, 72, said.
Healthcare is not about life and death, but non-existent global warming is. Good grief. Exit question: just when was it that Turner became a nutbar?

UPDATE: Even moonbat mothers don't believe in global warming:
UPDATE #2: From Ed Driscoll via Instapundit: Memo to Turner
If it’s life and death, then act that way, Ted. Time to retire the private jet. Since self-described climate experts have claimed that “meat [is] making global warming worse,” time to close the giant bison ranch and restaurants. There’s a stadium in Atlanta with your name on it. Demand that they disable their lights. Although you no longer own the TV networks you built, your word still likely carries some sway there as their founder. Demand that they go off the air and close down their Websites to eliminate their carbon footprint.

And it’s some footprint.

Here are seven more things I’d like to see, to prove that you’re serious about this “life and death” issue.

Because, to paraphrase the Professor, I’ll believe that global warming is a matter of life and death when the people who tell me that it’s a matter of life and death start to act that way themselves.
...“Now the father of five, who has often publicly regretted having so many children, [Turner] wants to extend China’s policy to the rest of us.”

I wonder if the Ted’s kids — or his ex-wives — ever ask him which child he regrets the most?
Ouch...

MI state denies Hamtramck permission to declare bankruptcy

How a Municipality Files for Bankruptcy
The state's response to Hamtramck? Go pound sand. From The Detroit Free Press: Hamtramck can't declare bankruptcy, state says
Hamtramck officials are still considering four loan options after meeting with current state Treasury officials Monday, as well as future state Treasurer Andy Dillon.
Loan options? Is that a joke? They're spending too much so the state wants to give these clowns a credit card?
"On the one hand, the meeting was productive because there was a lot of listening on both sides and clarifying positions, but the end result is the current administration made it clear that they won't allow us to declare bankruptcy," Hamtramck City Manager Bill Cooper said.

...Hamtramck officials hope Gov.-elect Rick Snyder's administration makes a different decision, Cooper said. "We haven't given up on the pursuit of bankruptcy."
1) why does Hamtramck need permission from the state to declare what they are - bankrupt. 2) Is Granholm protecting the unions that are fleecing taxpayers? 3) Why is Hamtramck in such dire financial straits with a $3-million deficit? The end of the article:
"Bankruptcy can help some municipalities, but it depends on the issue," said Robert Gordon, head of the corporate restructuring and bankruptcy practice group at Clark Hill law firm in Birmingham. "It can help municipalities struggling with capital projects, bond debt and pension and health obligations."

Hamtramck officials have said it has been difficult to make budget cuts, especially in the area of pension and health care costs because union contracts must be honored. Officials said bankruptcy would allow them to renegotiate those contracts.
Pension and healthcare costs are bankrupting Hamtramck. In the bigger picture, healthcare and union pensions are bankrupting Michigan. Speaking of, this related piece from Michael Barone: Allow states to declare bankruptcy. If states could do that, would constitutionally-protected union pensions be tossed by a judge? Hmmmmm...

UPDATE: Via Instapundit:
HARBINGER IN HAMTRAMCK: The bankruptcy lesson from a Detroit suburb.
More bad news out of Michigan: Facing a $3 million deficit on its $18 million budget, the Detroit suburb of Hamtramck is seeking permission to file bankruptcy. Other towns may not be far behind.

Hamtramck suffers from high unemployment and falling income, but its budget problems go deeper than the recession. The town began running million-dollar deficits 10 years ago due to union contracts that would make Greeks blush. City workers were entitled to annual wage increases at four times the inflation rate and eight paid weeks of vacation each year. That’s in addition to 15 paid sick days, three paid emergency leave days, three paid personal days and one paid birthday.

In 2000 the state appointed an Emergency Financial Manager who in five years managed to balance the budget by cutting the city work force, privatizing services and selling bonds. He got the unions to renegotiate some benefits by promising retirement service credits and promotions, but that set the city up for future pension woes.

Fast forward and the city again teeters toward bankruptcy. Workers still receive five weeks paid vacation and their health plans have no co-pays or deductibles. City health costs have risen nearly 40% this year and are expected to shoot up another 40% next year. Pension costs have climbed 36% in a year. . . . While many cities blame their deficits on the recession, their insolvency is the natural result of politically dominant public unions. By allowing workers to collectively bargain, states and cities have ceded control of the public purse to workers whose main interest is enlarging government. Hamtramck is a harbinger of bankruptcies to come, and a case study in why politicians from FDR to Fiorello LaGuardia opposed the creation of government employee unions.
They’ve only almost run out of other people’s money.
Give them till next week. They will.
