When Detroit Board of Education President Otis Mathis  - a D-student in high school who went to Wayne State University in a program for the academically unqualified, sued for his degree because he couldn't pass a basic English test, became a community organizer, and eventually was unanimously elected President of the School Board despite his being unqualified (just like our Community Organizer-In-Chief) including being functionally illiterate - quit after being criminally charged for habitually masturbating right in front of the School Superintendent during official meetings, the void had to be filled? But how to fill a void left by an illiterate? On June 17, Mathis handed in his letter of resignation, undoubtedly written by someone else, after it was revealed that he had a habit of masturbating right in front of school Superintendent Teresa Gueyser. He tried unsuccessfully to rescind his resignation and, as Detroit News' Laura Berman said: "The Detroit Public Schools board wiped clean its website of disgraced President Otis Mathis." That's pretty ironic since wiping is part of what Mathis got in trouble for as per Gueyser's letter:

Former Detroit Public School Board President Otis Mathis was sentenced today to two years probation for misconduct in office related to accusations he fondled himself during a private meeting with the woman who was then serving as the district's superintendent.

Wayne County Circuit Judge Vera Massey Jones accepted the terms of a plea-bargain agreement Mathis made with the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office earlier this month when he pleaded guilty to a felony misconduct charge. In exchange, a misdemeanor charge of obscene conduct was dropped.

"The actions here were disgraceful," Jones told Mathis in also ordering him to have no unsupervised contact with unrelated children during his probation. "The kind of disrespect you show to women will eventually be shown to children."

The felony charge carried a penalty of up to five years in prison. The misdemeanor had a sentence of up to 90 days.

Mathis' enablers are still 'serving' on the school beard, including 'Reverend' David Murray (and yes - he officially changed his legal name to include 'Reverend'), who had this to say of the 55-year old Mathis' habitual masturbation:

"It happens to a lot of young men. They engage in behavior they feel is harmless and it's offensive to certain people," Murray said. "... It could be deemed offensive, but some women are more sensitive to those types of things than others."

"I feel bad for him because he probably felt that it was something she would probably like or she got humor out of it."

And Detroit's children continue to be, err... in the best of hands?
