US Rep Charles Rangel (D): resigning my seat because of my corruption would be UNAMERICAN!!

Charles Rangel is a well-known corruptocrat on the Hill. Nothing has been done about the Harlem Democrat and his ways for decades. Not that he's the only one with ethics violations. Then again, when have ethics rules stopped Democrats from doing whatever they want anyway? Besides Charles Rangel (tax evasion), there's Chris Dodd (housing meltdown scandal)? Roland Burris (perjury)? The now deceased John Murtha (where do I start with him?)? Barney Frank (sleeping with Fannie Mae exec while giving said GSE favor in Congress, housing meltdown scandal)? William "cold cash" Jefferson? By the way, what ever happened to the last complaint against John Conyers after Turkeygate? Nada. Natch.But none of them, as far as I know anyway, claimed that resigning is unAmerican. Dodd and Burris are effectively resigning by not running for reelection. Which brings us back to Rangel. From the NY Daily News via memeorandum:

..."Well, it wouldn't be the American thing to do \[to step aside\]. I think I owe it to the process to find out first what the investigative committee finds out," Rangel told reporters after speaking at Harlem Hospital.

The 80-year-old legendary lawmaker is accused of failing to pay taxes, abusing rent-control rules and trading donations for favors. A public federal trial on Thursday will determine his fate after a two year investigation.
