“Look, Rush Limbaugh and others wanted to walk away. Rush Limbaugh and others saw a million people that worked at these factories, that worked at these parts suppliers, that had — that supported communities, and thought we should all just walk away. The president didn’t think that walking away from a million jobs in these communities made a lot of economic sense,” Gibbs said. The F-150 is built Ford tough. Ford didn't get any bailout loot, and have fared a whole lot better than GM or Chrysler as a result. So where's the freep's Hyde on this? No article calling Gibbs out on being confused? Oh that's right - Hyde only writes hit pieces on conservatives, not liberals. Speaking of, Henry Payne says of Hyde: "Though Free Press readers might wish that the paper were more of a watchdog for Big Government spending tax dollars on Big Auto than for a radio show host in Florida." Indeed.
...“We’ve got auto companies that for the first time since 2004 all showed an operating profit in the first quarter of this year. It’s adding jobs. And the money that this administration invested — about $60 billion — we believe we’re on the path to recouping all of that. ...
...Finally, he wrapped it up: “And then you should ask Mr. Limbaugh — I don’t know what kind of car he drives, but I bet it’s not an F-150.”
Finally - no 'summer of recovery' shpiel from Gibbs? Did he not get the memo? From Pundit & Pundette: Propaganda doesn't create jobs
Joe Weisenthal:
Presumably the idea is: get everyone repeating this phrase, recovery summer, over and over again, and maybe it will actually happen.
The auto industry has lost more than 250,000 net jobs since the recession began, but Obama will be in Detroit Friday touting job creation. Natch.Of course, the risk is that unemployed voters will wonder if there's a recovery summer for everyone else, and get even more angry that they're not taking part, punishing the Democrats in November.

Someone needs to explain to Gibbs how a market economy self corrects.
ReplyDeleteI love the meme that if we let GM go out of business then poof, millions of car sales gone and millions of people of of jobs. No concept of the fact that there is demand for a certain number of vehicles and some entity would have stepped in to fill that demand, and that entity would have to create and/or acquire the same components to make a car that GM would.
Does the Obama administration understand anything about economics?
Oh, I forgot. If you really want to save the environment then:
ReplyDelete1. Keep driving your current car until the wheels literally fall off, don't buy a new Volt.
2. If your wheels do fall off this year, then buy the Ford Fiesta rather than the volt. You can save over 20K and have a car that is just as environmentally friendly if not more so.
Ed, they need to explain to Obama how it works also. He seems to think that if GM or Chrysler went bust, then the factories empty out, never to be used again. The parts suppliers empty out never to be used again. I dont think they have any idea.
