Granholm to Congress: Put battery incentives in energy bill because it will do for jobs nationally what it did for jobs in Michigan

Good grief. This week, the National Academy of Sciences is holding a conference on advanced batteries. Granholm addressed the group, and pushed for the NAS to help throw in some battery incentives into the energy legislation to be debated in the Senate. Via MLive, here's Granholm in her own words:

A clean energy economy can create millions of jobs, reduce our dependence on foreign oil and enhance our national security. ... What’s absolutely critical is that we manufacture the components of a clean energy economy — the batteries, the wind turbines, the solar panels — right here in the United States.  And Michigan intends to lead the way in clean energy manufacturing.

You know, it all sounds so familiar. She's been saying that since 2006. As Henry Payne pointed out in The Michigan View, "Since hand-picking the green sector as Michigan's future back in 2006, the state's unemployment rate has doubled." Granholm delivered early. That 5 years isn't up until January 2011. Back to the NAS battery conference though, not all of the attendees were gulping down the kool-aid:

...experts today at the conference warned that the advanced battery industry could go bust if consumers don't buy electric vehicles.

The Chevy Volt? $41,000. That's more than I bought my Yukon XL for a few years ago. Who the heck is going to buy the Volt at that price??? Lastly, Granholm, who is on pace to lose by her own admission more than 1,000,000 private sector jobs in the state, laid down this whopper just for good measure:

These advanced manufacturing companies will create an estimated 62,000 new jobs for Michigan workers over the next decade, Granholm said.

62,000 workers. Over TEN YEARS! And this will help the 1,000,000 displaced by Granholm's policies in less time than that... how???
