Detroit Free Press poll: Majority of Michiganders oppose ObamaCare, including 69% of young people!

The majority in this poll being 51%. Just keep in mind in reading these results that the Detroit Free Press, long a bastion of liberalism in this state, has itself pushed ObamaCare as much as it possibly could. Note that their headline doesn't quite reflect the reality of their own poll: Health reform still splits Michigan. A 'split' is what liberals call a clear 51-43 decision against something they like.
Michiganders narrowly oppose federal health insurance reforms that promise to change the industry and provide affordable options.

The telephone survey conducted in May of 600 active or likely voters found 51% opposed to the reforms and 43% in favor, with 6% undecided or refusing to answer...

...Young people ages 18-29 were more against the changes than any other age group, with 69% opposed, compared with 48% of 56-64-year-olds who favored the reforms, the poll found.

Of those polled, 46% of women favored the reforms, compared with 40% of men. Among blacks, 92% favored reforms, according to the poll by EPIC-MRA, a Lansing polling firm.
No surprise that blacks overwhelmingly favor ObamaCare since the majority of that demographic lives in Detroit, the most liberal city in the US based on voting record. Detroiters have been voting for their own demise by glomming onto liberal policies and politicians alike. I'm surprised that 69% of young people oppose it as it indicates that that demographic is actually getting informed. Kudos to them. As for ObamaCare, the 'promise' of affordable healthcare is already unraveling. From Doug Ross: CBO Director: Hate to break this to you, but the Democrats lied about pretty much every single aspect of "health care reform"
From the "Now You Tell Us Department" comes word that the ObamaCare books were cooked. The surprising part: the Director of the Congressional Budget Office is calling the President and Congressional Democrats liars.
Check out this series of presentation slides:
A common refrain from the President and his Budget Director was “health care reform is entitlement reform.” And through two budget cycles, when senior Administration officials were pressed on their plans for deficit reduction, they always returned to the argument that health care reform would substantially improve the federal budget outlook.

CBO Director Dr. Douglas Elmendorf has shown this argument to be incorrect.
You're seeing that last slide correctly. ObamaCare that passed by Democrats having to bribe those in their own party, bent the cost curve... upwards!
This is the best and most direct presentation I have seen on the subject. I commend Dr. Elmendorf for his honesty, clarity and bluntness. I wish he had been this blunt and this clear in February and March before these bills became law.
It wouldn't have mattered. When the legislation was so close, Democrats had a Pavlovian response to pass it. ObamaCare, of course, has nothing to do with healthcare. It does have everything to do however with control.

  1. If Americans are pleased with the federal government’s swift, efficient and decisive response to the BP oil crisis then they will be happy to look forward to Obamacare whenever they or someone they love becomes seriously ill and face a medical crisis.

I moved from Livonia, Michigan to Houston, Texas and I appreciate and enjoy this blog. Thanks.
