Video: Obama Was Against Healthcare Mandates Before He Was For Them

This is a clip of an Obama/Clinton primary debate where Obama comes out against healthcare mandates, something that is explicitly in HR 3200:

HT: Legal Insurrection. William Jacobson comments:
Barack Obama can claim that he has a mandate to impose mandates, but he cannot do so with a straight face. Obama campaigned on a platform of no mandates. Obama repeatedly pointed out during the primaries that the key difference between his health care plan and Hillary's health care plan was that Hillary had mandates, but Obama did not.

HT: Ace of Spades. Uncle Jimbo comments:
It is becoming painfully obvious that Obama really believes his own press releases about his awesomeness are. He can't seem to stop putting himself in the spotlight. He will have another primetime speech this week, although it will likely be outdrawn by the Golf Channel's repeat of "Bermuda or Bentgrass?". He is even going to be the first US President to ever chair the UN Security Council. I guess he figgered he could apologize to a bunch of countries all at once and save some travel time. What a narcissistic wanker, he thinks everything is better with some Obama. Well sorry buddy, but you are not bacon, or cowbell for that matter.

Silver lining: liberals are using the word "terrorist" again:

Now, just keep in mind who Van Jones is:
  1. a communist who admits it publicly
  2. denounced America the day after 911
  3. A 911 truther blaming Bush for 911
  4. founded a radical organization and lead a boycott against a conservative personality (Glenn Beck)
  5. called for a revolution from capitalism to socialism
  6. a racist blaming the white establishment for literally polluting black communities
  7. derided all Republicans as a**holes
  8. organized a rally for convicted cop murderer Mumia Abu-Jamal
And this man had power over the lives of any Americans, lest the entire country? Doug Ross had this snippet to point out just the other day from the memory hole:
The biggest problems that we're facing right now have to do with George Bush trying to bring more and more power into the executive branch and not go through Congress at all. And that's what I intend to reverse when I'm president of the United States." -- Sen. Barack Obama, March 31, 2008

Lessons from history: “Where do you find in the Constitution any authority to give away the public money in charity?”

That wasn't a question from a constituent at a recent townhall. Actually, that question was from all the way back in the 1820s! Almost 200 years ago. From Daily Inter Lake via Instapundit (HT: Doug Ross): Charity and the good ol' Constitution.
It was a question that Rep. Crockett was not well-prepared to answer, but his constituent wanted to know why he had voted to spend federal funds for the relief of families that had been left homeless as the result of a ravaging fire in Georgetown. Crockett had actually seen the fire and gone to help rescue women and children and to fight the flames, so he was more than happy a bill came before Congress to aid those victims further. As he himself said, "We put aside all other business, and rushed it through as soon as it could be done."

Again, sort of reminiscent of the "rush" to pass health-care 'reform" in the current Congress, but whereas we are talking about spending a trillion dollars or more for health-care reform, the fire relief was the relatively paltry sum of $20,000.

That's because this was back in the 1820s, and Rep. Crockett was none other than the American folk hero, Davy Crockett, "king of the wild frontier." Crockett served three terms in Congress altogether before being killed defending the Alamo in Texas.

But back to our story, which comes from an 1884 biography, "The Life of Colonel David Crockett" by Edward S. Ellis, it is instructive to note the puzzlement of Rep. Crockett when he was challenged by his constituent Horatio Bunce while out stumping for votes. Bunce told Crockett in no uncertain terms that he could not vote for him again.

"You gave a vote last winter which shows that either you have not capacity to understand the Constitution, or that you are wanting in the honesty and firmness to be guided by it. In either case you are not the man to represent me," Bunce said in the story, as allegedly recounted by Crockett.

By today's mainstream-media standards, Bunce would clearly be known as a right-wing extremist, and if he expressed his concerns at a town-hall meeting this summer he would have been labeled "un-American."

Even Crockett, before finding out what was on Bunce's mind, said, "I had been making up my mind that he was one of those churlish fellows who care for nobody but themselves, and take bluntness for independence."

But that was before the Tennessee farmer had asked his devastating question, which Crockett described colorfully as a 'sockdologer!" which roughly translated means a comment that could set a person to thinking.

And think, Crockett did, trying in vain to find some justification for his vote in favor of the $20,000 in charity.

"When I began to think about it, I could not remember a thing in the Constitution that authorized it. I found I must take another tack, so I said: 'Well, my friend; I may as well own up. You have got me there. But certainly nobody will complain that a great and rich country like ours should give the insignificant sum of $20,000 to relieve its suffering women and children, particularly with a full and overflowing Treasury, and I am sure, if you had been there, you would have done just as I did.'"

But Horatio Bunce, a one-man "Tea Party" of his day, was having none of it. Rather than be hornswoggled by Crockett's attempt to deflect the argument away from the Constitution, he circled right back to it:

"In the first place," he said, the Government ought to have in the Treasury no more than enough for its legitimate purposes. But that has nothing to do with the question. The power of collecting and disbursing money at pleasure is the most dangerous power that can be entrusted to man... [W]hile you are contributing to relieve one, you are drawing it from thousands who are even worse off than he. If you had the right to give anything, the amount was simply a matter of discretion with you, and you had as much right to give $20,000,000 as $20,000. If you have the right to give to one, you have the right to give to all; and, as the Constitution neither defines charity nor stipulates the amount, you are at liberty to give to any and everything which you may believe, or profess to believe, is a charity, and to any amount you may think proper. You will very easily perceive, what a wide door this would open for fraud and corruption and favoritism, on the one hand, and for robbing the people on the other. No, Colonel, Congress has no right to give charity. Individual members may give as much of their own money as they please, but they have no right to touch a dollar of the public money for that purpose."

Michael Moore Says "Capitalism Is Evil," But Lives On A $1 Million Estate Where He Was Caught Filling In Wetlands To Expand His Beach

Michael Moore in the news again. Michigan's resident hypocrite, in so many ways that it baffles logic, has wrapped on a new non-documentary documentary “Capitalism: A Love Story,” where he says at the end "capitalism is evil." Except when it benefits him. From Reuters via memeorandum:
Capitalism is evil. That is the conclusion U.S. documentary maker Michael Moore comes to in his latest movie "Capitalism: A Love Story," which premieres at the Venice film festival Sunday.

Blending his trademark humor with tragic individual stories, archive footage and publicity stunts, the 55-year-old launches an all out attack on the capitalist system, arguing that it benefits the rich and condemns millions to poverty.

"Capitalism is an evil, and you cannot regulate evil," the two-hour movie concludes.

Uh - isn't Moore one of those evil beneficiaries? Turns out, Moore lives on a $1.2 million waterfront estate (UPDATE: now assessed at about $650,000 and taxed on half that assessed value. See below) You wonder if he used the tanking housing values to get his lawyers to get the property assessed downward that much to avoid property taxes as much as possible. It would be par for the course for someone who is an eco-hypocrite as well, partially filling in wetlands on that very estate some years ago to expand his beachfront! From Tim Blair some time back:

To celebrate today’s Oscar Madison awards in Hollywood, here’s a piece on comical, hysterical, spherical Michael Moore:

Perhaps nothing irritates Moore more than criticism of his lifestyle.

He's been known to refer to his house on 10 acres of Torch Lake frontage as a cabin, as if it were a place with four walls, a roof, an outhouse and a stack of cordwood to beat back the chill in winter.

Technically, it is a log cabin. Two stories. According to Antrim County records, the home is worth $1.2 million.

Former Moore pal Ben Hamper -- "I'm just another person he's outgrown" -- has an interesting theory about Moore’s capacity for denial:

At an appearance at Michigan State University in late January, Moore took questions after his two-hour talk. A student asked if rumors about him building on a wetland Up North were true.

Silence. Then: "Don't know what you're talking about."

According to state records, Moore partially filled in a wetland to improve his beach. He quickly fixed the problem and wasn't fined.

Why deny it?

"A pathological need to be right," Hamper said.

That need is so rarely satisfied.

Environmental regulation for thee, but not for me!!! Bald. Faced. Hypocrisy. Especially considering that Moore now hopes that automaker GM will outright fail as a company, since cars are "WMDs for global warming." I kid you not! He said that very thing after making a name for himself with the documentary Roger and Me about how corporate greed was destroying GM! (Michigan's Michael Moore on GM: Filled with "Joy" Over Demise, cars "WMDs responsible for global warming")

So Moore is happy that GM is bankrupt, right after Chrysler. Michigan moms and dads lost jobs. Lots of them. And Moore is happy sitting in his big house using up all the natural resources to his heart's desire. Moore - just stick with the propaganda already...

UPDATE: Gateway Pundit has more detail on Moore's residence:
Just some data for if you run a piece on Michael Moore's new movie.
Capitalism sure has been evil for Mike. For reference, Torch Lake is among the two or three most desirable places to live in Northern Michigan. Normally Moore says that Traverse City is his adopted hometown, or lies and says that he lives in Bellaire, like he has some kind of log cabin in the woods.
Nope, his home is an expensive house on 150 ft of lake frontage.

The assessed value is almost half of what it was back in 2004. Question: did Moore send lawyers down to the township to argue down the assessed value of his property to pay less in property taxes?

UPDATE #2: From Wired.com blog back in 2002, a very early Glenn Reynolds/Instapundit sighting displaying more Moore hypocrisy:

Satirist Michael Moore, who comically exposed corporate evasiveness in the film Roger & Me and the TV series The Awful Truth, seems to have turned the joke on himself online.

"Years From Now They'll Call it 'Payback Tuesday'," Moore wrote in a hyperbolic letter urging his fans to vote in the U.S. elections Nov. 5. The full letter, posted to michaelmoore.com two days before the vote, predicted, "We will deny Bush control of the Congress next week ... Expect a wake-up call from me at your bedside 6 a.m. Tuesday!"

After Republicans handily won majorities in both the House and Senate, the essay disappeared from Moore's site.

The irony of Moore –- who ambushes executives and politicians on film with their own statements -- apparently trying to erase his own words was too rich even for some of his fans.

Taking a lesson from Moore himself, bloggers dug up cached copies of the page and posted both text and screenshots to their journals. Others pasted it into Moore's own message board.

Conservative political writers, often at loggerheads with Moore's progressive screeds, had a field day linking to what they called proof of Moore's hypocrisy.

"Well, it is vaguely reminiscent of the shredding at Enron, isn't it?" Instapundit editor Glenn Reynolds wrote in an e-mail. "Removing evidence of bad predictions about future success."

Goes way back, no?

Video: Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN): Public option is path to single payer

Fascinating the information you get when liberals get caught in a short moment of honesty (which is rare):

WURZER: Politics is the art of compromise.

REP. ELLISON: It is.

WURZER: So how are you all gonna compromise?

REP. ELLISON: Most of us are co-authors of HR676, which is a single-payer bill so we feel like we’ve already compromised. I think that the reality is the public option has been scored by the Congressional Budget Office as saving $150 billion, so this actually helps deal with the fiscal responsibility issues…It offers choice, which is a good thing…

ESKOLA: Isn’t the public option really just a step towards the single payer that you want so much?

REP. ELLISON: Yes but the reality is that for many people that’s not what it is.

Remember this?:

Same difference. Ed Morrissey breaks down Ellison's logic:
  • Ellison’s idea of “diversity” is having a teleconference comprising people who all believe the same thing.
  • The progressive caucus “feels like we compromised” because they had to drop an explicitly single-payer bill for one Ellison admits is a Trojan horse for the same thing.
  • Ellison lauds the same CBO scoring that shows that HR3200 will cost a fortune and drive up the deficit in both the near- and long-term.

The health-care “exchanges” are just like the stock market or a farmer’s market, according to Ellison, and this is really ludicrous. The government isn’t setting up the exchanges to create more choice, but to limit choices to government-approved plans. Furthermore, the government doesn’t set up stock exchanges or farmers markets. People do that on their own. Insurers don’t need a government-owned exchange to offer products to consumers, either. They offer products to them now. The “exchange” is another word for licensing, which restricts choice by definition. Ellison says, “This is competition,” when he says in the very next breath that it will lead to a single-payer system.

As for Ellison's claim that the U.S. ranks 37th in healthcare, that is true. But the caveat is that that is according to the WHO. What he doesn't mention is how those rankings are determined. Quality of care is a small part of it, while the biggest chunk is political, as pointed out by Doug Ross recently:
37: The "health care ranking" assigned to the U.S. by the World Health Organization among the world's countries. This oft-quoted number is used to justify an overhaul of the U.S. health care system and lists countries like Italy (2), Andorra (4), Malta (5), Singapore (6), Oman (8), Portugal (12), Greece (14), the United Kingdom (18), Ireland (19), Columbia (22), Cyprus (24), Saudi Arabia (26), the UAE (27), Morocco (29), Canada (30), Chile (33), the Dominican Republic (35) and Costa Rica (36) ahead of the U.S. Considering that no U.S. citizens travel to these countries when experiencing a life-threatening situation, it's worth questioning the methods by which the WHO arrived at these rankings. Their criteria included subjective and political assessments such as "Fairness in financial contribution". Suffice it to say that the WHO's rankings are clearly fraudulent and are designed to influence U.S. policy.
So the NHS is ranked much higher than the U.S. So who wants to go to the NHS in the U.K. for treatment? Not me. Not with nightmares like this:
That ought to put in perspective the validity of the WHO rankings. Also, here's some more reading in case you want to really be sick (HT: Doug Ross @Journal):

Movie Review: "Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus"

Let the kids stay up for the last time in a while today to see "Mega Shark vs Giant Octupus." School starts this week. I posted the trailer back in May: (the trailer itself has generated almost 2 million hits)

It's a SyFy (sci fi for Pete's sakes!) movie, which, based on track record has set the bar really, really low for this flick.

9:00pm - Ice. Mountains. A water scene, then ice and mountains again. Wha?

9:03pm - Glacier breaks off. Suddenly, a large pod of whales swims by a small submersible.

9:06pm - Debbie Gibson (yes - that Debbie Gibson, of 80s fame): everything goes nuts. Helicopter crashes into a glacier and explodes. Submersible in trouble. Ice breaks. Mega shark and giant octopus swim away like nothing happened in the last gazillion years since they've been entombed in ice. Kinda like that one episode of Seaquest DSV with the giant crocodile. In fact, exactly like that.

9:08 - Oil drilling platform attacked by giant octopus. Lots of camera shake. Uh - why is the octopus attacking an oil platform? Is oil high in omega-3s or something? Cheese dripping from the tv screen already.

9:10pm - Dead whale on the beach, but they don't show the whole whale. Low budget. Debbie Gibson cannot act. "There's something big out there."

9:12pm - Scene to scene the movie "flashes" like in Independence Day. Irritating as all heck.

9:10pm - An interview with a guy in a detention center in Tokyo? The one guy saw the giant octopus and lived to tell about it. Not a scratch on him.

9:21pm: 747 flying through storm clouds. Mega shark flies out of the water and bites the 747 at 20,000 feet or something. I'm not even going to try and calculate the exit velocity the shark had to have leaving the water to reach such a height. My oldest already says this is ridiculous. And here we're only 20 minutes and 1 long commercial in.

9:23pm: Debbie Gibson has a thoughtful moment. The first since the 80s.

9:25pm: Low budget scientific analysis. Test tubes from Walmart. A CRT computer screen. Typing on a keyboard. And viola! That little shard from the dead whale is part of a giant tooth.

9:36pm: Debbie Gibson gets an anonymous cd with video of the shark and octopus in ice. "I thought I imagined that." Groan.

9:38pm: The glaciers are melting. That must be the cause of all this! Global warming!

9:39pm: Mega shark attacks U.S. battleship. Needs more iron in the diet? Fin going through the water without a wake. Battleship apparently gone as the captain screams "noooooo!" in a fit of bad acting. The scene cuts without showing the actual attack.

9:41: Scientists get rounded up at gunpoint to get a lecture by -- Lorenzo Lamas? With the pony tail? In a simple room with a blue light background. Low. Budget. Hell. Lamas: "A giant octopus - that's crazy!"

9:54: Debbie Gibson mashing with Japanese scientist. Go in the janitor closet. Do the nasty. Don't they have a world to save? After getting off, they figure that pheromones would be used to attract the beasts. Thank goodness for sluts! Oh, and megelodon pheromones glow green.

10:00pm: F-16 gets swatted down by giant octopus arm. It's Lamas' fault. The swat is in the trailer. In fact, all the cgi is in the trailer. The majority of the movie is bad acting on crappy sets. This movie is only half over? Ugh. Each commercial break I put one kid to bed. That's about how exciting this movie is. Only 2 to go.

10:09pm: Time to deploy the glowing green pheromones. Mechanical problems ensue.

10:11pm: Mega shark coming in at 500 knots! Even the non-alien aliens in The Abyss would be impressed. Why not just make it 5,000 to sound more impressive?

10:14pm: Shark bites the destroyer shooting at it in two. At least I think so as it's largely left to the imagination.

10:15pm. Shark bites the Golden Gate bridge in two. (why?) Most of that is, again, left to the imagination. Can this movie just end? Literally, every cgi special effect is in the trailer. I kid you not!

10:24pm: Scientists think using nukes is a bad idea because they will cause "massive tidlewaves." Haven't they seen all the nuke tests underwater some half a century ago?

10:30pm: Debbie Gibson has a dream and wakes up with the idea to get them to fight each other again. Brilliant!

10:34pm: The imdb rating for this movie is 3.3/10. I was shocked enough at how high this was that I checked out the stats. 20% of voters gave this flick a 10, probably as a joke.

10:35pm: Whoever made this flick never researched the military. Horrid.

10:40pm: Giant octopus destroys 5 submarines. Kind of. (why?)

10:44pm: Squirrly sub pilot goes mutiny on the captain. Lots of camera shake.

10:45pm: Giant octopus attacks mega shark.

10:56: Giant octopus and mega shark kill each other and sink into the blackness entertwined in mutual death. Couldn't possibly be any cornier.

In a nutshell: I feel dumber for having watched this. And the SyFy channel canceled Battlestar Galactica, Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis to make this crap?

Moonbat Keith Olbermann Declares Jihad Against Glenn Beck Over Van Jones Resignation

Some haven't taken Van Jones resignation lightly, especially the fringe kook left. Just a couple of examples. First, Howard "the scream" Dean:

A loss for the country? Oh please already. Howard Dean took the resignation quite well compared to kook Keith Olbermann however. Olbermann has declared an all-out jihad against Glenn Beck, who kicked back at Van Jones after Jones' org lead a boycott against Beck. From teh Daily Kos via memeorandum: Send Me Everything You Can Find About Glenn Beck
I don't know why I've got this phrasing in my head, but: Find everything you can about Glenn Beck, Stu Burguiere, and Roger Ailes.

Tuesday we will expand this to the television audience and have a dedicated email address to accept leads, tips, contacts, on Beck, his radio producer Burguiere, and the chief of his tv enablers, Ailes.

...Despite the worn-out snark above, I am in earnest here.
Here we go. The politics of personal destruction front and center. Olbermann doesn't mention that Van Jones destroyed himself. All that was brought forth was his prior statements and his signature on a 911 truther statement trying to implicate Bush in the attack. William Jacobson has it right with this over at Legal Insurrection:
You own CBS, ABC, NBC, MSNBC, CNN, and PBS. You own The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Boston Globe, The L.A. Times, the Associated Press and Reuters. You own the House of Representatives, the Senate and the White House.

The failure to get your message out is not the problem. The problem is your message.
That's exactly right. Don't forget CNBC and CSPAN either. Donald Douglas over at American Power has a preview of things to come:

Ace of Spades has arguably the best commentary on the Olbermann/Daily Kos circus:

Irony: Although the supposed prompt for this is Glenn Beck's call for information about Cass Sunstein, I think it's pretty clear that he's reacting to the smear campaign (ahem) which resulted in the lynching (ahem) of Van Jones.

The irony here is that Van Jones was drummed from his office because it is unacceptable in American politics to be a Truther. It is considered too embarrassing and too nutty and ruins one's political credibility.

And where does Olby go to seek his vengeance?

To the Daily Kos, which put up an announcement that no Truther statements or comments or petitions were permitted on the site, and would be deleted immediately, because Trutherism was too embarrassing and too nutty for the site's political credibility.

So, you know, Van Jones got pushed out of office by the same "McCarthyite tactics" that Kos employs to keep his site free of Trutherism.

What is creeping fascism when applied to a high government official is not, apparently, fascism, creeping or otherwise, when used against a common citizen of no public importance posting on a stupid blog.

Ouch. Looks like I'll have plenty of fodder for blogging from Olby. Then again, plenty of kookiness to go around these days...

The Washington Post (!) Credits Gateway Pundit With Reporting Leading To Van Jones Resignation

I kid you not! The Washington Post, asleep at the wheel, now has to report on events leading up to the resignation of communist 911 truther and Obama green jobs czar Van Jones days, even weeks, after events leading up to his resignation have unfolded. Old news, as they say. From WaPo, which reported on Jones' resignation today, comes this: White House Says Little About Embattled Jones.
White House officials offered tepid support Friday for Van Jones, the administration's embattled energy efficiency guru, who has issued two public apologies this week, one for signing a petition that questioned whether Bush administration officials "may indeed have deliberately allowed 9/11 to happen, perhaps as a pretext for war."

Fox News Channel host Glenn Beck all but declared war on Jones after a group the adviser founded in 2005, ColorofChange.org, led an advertising boycott against Beck's show to protest his claim that Obama is a racist.

But reporters peppered the White House with questions about Jones after the blogger Gateway Pundit reported Thursday that in 2004 Jones had signed a petition circulated by the group 911Truth.org about the 9/11 attacks.

The post could have called out Jim Hoft by name, but anyway. How embarrassing is it for the post to be doing this kind of post-partem 'reporting?' Glenn Reynolds points this out at Instapundit:
Tom Maguire comments: “Not since Captain Ed brought down the Canadian government has a blogger struck so mightily.”
In related news, Ed Morrissey has this: The media strikes (out) again on Jones resignation.

If people relied on the mainstream media, especially print media, to keep up to date on the government, then they must have quite a shock this morning with the resignation of Van Jones. For instance, the New York Times makes its first mention of the Jones controversy this morning — by reporting his resignation:

In a victory for Republicans and the Obama administration’s conservative critics, Van Jones resigned as the White House’s environmental jobs “czar” on Saturday.

Controversy over Mr. Jones’s past comments and affiliations has slowly escalated over several weeks, erupting on Friday with calls for his resignation.

Did the Times report it on Friday? On Saturday? No. Their first print report of any controversy at all over Van Jones came today, in reporting his resignation. The Times does a credible job laying out the more substantial accusations against Jones, but there is a problem here as well:

Appointed as a special adviser for “green jobs” by President Obama, Mr. Jones did not go through the traditional vetting process for administration officials who must be confirmed by the Senate. So it was not until recently that some of Mr. Jones’s past actions received broad airing, including his derogatory statements about Republicans in February and his signature on a 2004 letter suggesting that former President George W. Bush might have knowingly allowed the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks to occur in order to use them as a “pre-text to war.”

Mr. Jones’s involvement in the 1990s with a group called Standing Together to Organize a Revolutionary Movement prompted recent accusations by conservative critics that he associated with Communists. The group, according to a post-mortem written by some of its founders, was an anti-capitalist, antiwar organization committed to achieving “solidarity among all oppressed peoples” with “direct militant action.”

When did the 9/11 Truther connection come to light? Jim Hoft reported it Thursday, and it flew through the blogosphere. Even more Truther connections came out the next day. When did the New York Times — and to be fair, most other newspapers in the country — get around to reporting in print that a paranoid conspiracy theorist had a job as a White House czar? Today, after he quit.

Ouch. Click over and read the whole thing. One thing that is clear is that the MSM is trumpeting the Van Jones was smeared meme. That is just pure nonsense. As Pundette articulates: Van Jones smears himself, then resigns.
Let it be noted that Jones's own words, often on video, have been the source of this controversy. If he's been smeared it's been a self-smearing. The new media have merely shined a light on his record.
Facts simply won't interfere with the MSM narrative, however.

Which, by the way is true, especially considering these numbers that I reported on just yesterday (Liberal Media Bias: Words About Van Jones Controversy From NYT, WaPo, NBC Nightly News, ABC World News, CBS Evening News: ZERO - **COMBINED!**):

Total words about the Van Jones controversy in the New York Times: 0.
Total words about the Van Jones controversy in the Washington Post: 0.
Total words about the Van Jones controversy on NBC Nightly News: 0.
Total words about the Van Jones controversy on ABC World News: 0.
Total words about the Van Jones controversy on CBS Evening News: 0.

If you were to receive all your news from any one of these outlets, or even all of them together, and you heard about some sort of controversy involving President Obama's Special Adviser for Green Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, your response would be, "Huh?" If you heard that that adviser, Van Jones, had apologized for a number of remarks and positions in the recent past, your response would be, "What?" And if you were in the Obama White House monitoring the Jones situation, you would be hoping that the news organizations listed above continue to hold the line -- otherwise, Jones, who is quite well thought of in Obama circles, would be history.
Thank goodness for the new media I say! Here's the FoxNews video from Gateway Pundit via American Power:

"I think it would have been better if he were fired by the president once he found out more about Mr. Jones's background than waiting for him to resign because we all agreed that he had to go."

"But, I was amused by this fact. If you just read the New York Times you would know nothing about this. The mainstream media did not cover this story. You wouldn't learn about it on network news. The New York Times readers tomorrow morning are going to pick up the print New York Times and for the first time discover that there was a huge controversy about this radical who was quite at a high level at the White House. So its a an interesting case study I think where some of the blogs, a guy named Jim Hoft in St. Louis, Missouri who runs a blog called Gateway Pundit did much more reporting on this than the entire mainstream media."
Some in the MSM aren't so happy about the internet, though, and blame the technology for the Van being run over by the bus:

Jim Hoft adds:
The New York Times will publish their first print report on the Van Jones scandal tomorrow morning... more than 36 hours after the communist left the White House.
They refused to report on the story until the Mumia Abu Jamal-supporting Truther was long, long gone.
Good work, guys.
Indeed.

Moonbattery in the U.K.: 4-year olds to be interned in fat farms to combat obesity

4 year olds. 4 YEAR OLDS! Have they gone mad across the pond? From the U.K. Times: Infants to be offered places at 'fat camp'.
PRIMARY school pupils as young as four will be offered places on “weight management” courses as the NHS urges health trusts to provide slimming programmes for overweight children.
I despise the very notion of 'overweight' regardless of body composition. As a bodybuilder, these bureaucrats would classify my as obese or borderline obese simply because of BMI, a number that only takes weight and height into account, rather than body fat percentage, which is a much better gauge of health.

Pilot schemes run by health trusts, including Rotherham and Nottingham, have cost up to £3,000 per patient for a six-week residential course. Non-residential courses have also been provided. The NHS would like other trusts to follow suit.
All primary school pupils are weighed and measured in their first and second years. Parents receive a letter stating whether their child is healthy or overweight.
Again, no mention of body composition. Just weight and height.

Under the new scheme parents of overweight children will be given the option to send their child on a course. According to NHS figures, about one in three children is overweight by the time they leave primary school.
Pupils identified as obese might also be sent to paediatricians for specialist treatment, drugs or even surgery.

Surgery on a 4-year old? This is simply madness! Feel lucky that your child doesn't have a lot of muscle or large bones lest they get their stomach stapled! Doesn't the NHS have better things to do - like actually treat their patients that they are now failing miserably? Doug Ross displayed these statistics recently:

13: The number of teeth that British veteran Ian Boynton pulled out himself with pliers "because he couldn't find an NHS (National Health Service) dentist... [he] could not afford to go private for treatment so instead took the drastic action to remove 13 of his teeth that were giving him severe pain."

14: The percentage of all patients in Britain who wait more than one (1) year to receive treatment after a referral by a general practitioner. Half of all National Health Care patients in Britain wait between 18 and 52 weeks for treatment.
60: Average cancer survival rate (all types) for patients in the United States. Canada's survival rate is significantly lower at 55%, while Europe's is a dismal 48%.

81: Average percentage of those who survive a diagnosis of prostate cancer in the United States versus 43% in Britain under their National Health Service.
750: The estimated number of people waiting in line (in the pouring rain) at Britain's Bury Office attempting to register for dental care.
443,849: The number of British patients of the National Healthcare Service (NHS) who waited four or more weeks for inpatient admittance into a hospital (Excel file) in May of 2009 (more than 75% of all patients).
Click over and read the whole thing. The point being - NHS has, ironically, bigger fish to fry.

Sen Sherrod Brown (D) paints Constituents who oppose ObamaCare as Unpatriotic, Rude, Nasty, and Hints at Immoral

Yet another Democrat sneering at his constituents. From hourglass1941 via memeorandum:
Ohio Expo Center, Columbus, Ohio. September 1, 2009

Bottom line for Ohioans. If you don't support ObamaCare, you're unpatriotic, rude, nasty, and perhaps immoral. And Sherrod Brown has no intention of representing you. To a crowd of about 600 screaming supporters, mostly union members (AFL-CIO, SEIU, CWA, etc.), Sherrod Brown mocked constituents who oppose ObamaCare and told the ObamaCare supporters "you are the real patriotic American with family values."

Teddy tributes ad nauseum. Yet not one speaker addressed how Obamacare would be paid for. Not one speaker declared that they would enroll in the public option. Not one speaker outlined any particulars of the health care proposal. All hype. No substance.
Here's the video:

I sure hope his constituents remember this episode next year when his butt is on the hot seat.

Van Jones Meets Undercarriage Of Obama's Bus, Resigns Amid Growing Controversy

My revised list on what it takes to be an Obama czar:
  1. Must be a communist and admit it publicly - check
  2. Must have denounced America the day after 911 - check
  3. Must be 911 truther blaming Bush for 911 - check
  4. Must have founded a radical organization and lead a boycott against a conservative personality - check
  5. Must have called for a revolution from capitalism to socialism - check
  6. Must be a racist blaming the white establishment for literally polluting black communities - check and check! Twice for good measure!
  7. Must have publicly derided all Republicans as a**holes - check
  8. Must have organized a rally for convicted cop murderer Mumia Abu-Jamal - check
Add one more to the list that Jones was not aware of:
9. Don't mess with Glenn Beck
That was the beginning of the end for Jones. He got his thugs to boycott Beck, who fought right back. If it were about anyone else - a Limbaugh or Hannity - bigger personalities, Jones' criticism would have bounced right off without much need for a follow-up. Beck dug in, stories started coming out, and that turned into a flood of revelations regarding Jones and his shady, seedy past. From the WaPo via memeorandum (HT to Adrienne): White House Adviser Van Jones Resigns Amid Controversy Over Past Activism.

White House environmental adviser Van Jones resigned Saturday after weeks of controversy stemming from his past activism.

"On the eve of historic fights for health care and clean energy, opponents of reform have mounted a vicious smear campaign against me," Jones, special adviser for green jobs at the White House Council on Environmental Quality, said in a statement announcing his resignation just after midnight Saturday. "They are using lies and distortions to distract and divide."

He continued: "I have been inundated with calls -- from across the political spectrum -- urging me to 'stay and fight.' But I came here to fight for others, not for myself. I cannot in good conscience ask my colleagues to expend precious time and energy defending or explaining my past. We need all hands on deck, fighting for the future."

Jones issued two public apologies in recent days, one for signing a petition that questioned whether Bush administration officials "may indeed have deliberately allowed 9/11 to happen, perhaps as a pretext for war" and the other for using a crude term to describe Republicans in a speech he gave before joining the administration.

Lies and distortions? Could he have been more specific? No; no he couldn't. Why? Because that statement in and of itself is a lie and distortion. By the way, how is it "mounting a vicious smear campaign" to point out his signature and videos of his own speeches? He did those things, and pointing them out now is tantamount to a smear campaign?

I'll leave the Van Jones controversy with his own hip-hop recording via Verum Serum:
