Uh - is this not a startling admission that the NHS system of rationing care DOES NOT WORK? If private care gets their staffers back to work faster, wouldn't the same be true for everybody else? Thus, why subject anyone to such a draconian system in the first place? Oh yeah - that's right - NHS is the 3rd largest employer in the world. What would they do? Would be a shame if they had to actually compete for patients! Now for the rest of the Times story:The health department defended the practice and said sending doctors, nurses and other key staff for private treatment helped to get them back to work.
“If trusts want to get their staff back to work more quickly they can’t jump NHS waiting lists, so going private is an option,” said the spokesman.
Quite an eye-opener, eh? And Obamacare will be different because...???THE National Health Service has spent £1.5m paying for hundreds of its staff to have private health treatment so they can leapfrog their own waiting lists.
More than 3,000 staff, including doctors and nurses, have gone private at the taxpayers’ expense in the past three years because the queues at the clinics and hospitals where they work are too long.
Figures released under the Freedom of Information act show that NHS administrative staff, paramedics and ambulance drivers have also been given free private healthcare. This has covered physiotherapy, osteopathy, psychiatric care and counselling — all widely available on the NHS.
“It simply isn’t fair to have one service for staff and another for everyone else,” said Norman Lamb, the Liberal Democrat health spokesman, who obtained the figures.
“If the NHS has to circumvent their own waiting lists the system isn’t working well enough. It’s an admission by the NHS that their own system isn’t able to respond to the mass of people desperate to get back to work.”

If Congress and the White House want this so desperately, let them have it, with the following conditions:
ReplyDelete1. All public employees must surrender their private health insurance and enroll themselves and their families in the "public option," NO exceptions and NO preferential treatment;
2. The public option must operate as a FOR-PROFIT entity, maintaining at least a 3% profit margin.
3. The program takes effect IMMEDIATELY, not in 2013 when they are safely after the election.
It is unconscionable that those who wish to impose this on the rest of us against our will may exclude themselves, safe from the harm they know it will cause. They are doing everything they can to fight it and eventually this will raise the ire of enough of the constituency to cause them problems at the voting booth, but why wait?
If the public option were forced to operate for profit, they might not be so quick to give the shaft to private insurers when they realize they cannot meet margin (think asinine regulations, among other things). Further, it will force tax rates to skyrocket, pushing more taxpayers to become NON-taxpayers (as they realize they are working only for the gov't to take more and more of the fruits of their labor) and leading to the collapse of this stupid entitlement program and many others. Start the program NOW, so we can get to the end quickly.
When ALL of the entitlement programs become insolvent and China is no longer willing to fund the addictive spending behavior of our Congress, tax revenues dwindling to nothing, they will be forced to choose between their Constitutional mandate of protecting the nation from invasion or spending on pork. Error will prove to be fatal but the American public will finally see how out of control our leadership is, rising up to ensure our own protection and expelling the crooks and thieves from W-DC once and for all.
It is unconscionable. But not surprising. Not for this gang.

ReplyDeleteHow about a list of the consequences to people who are cut from insurance coverage or otherwise denied care according to the judgment and cost of the insurance company?
Isn’t our health care rationed to those who can afford it or to those who stay healthy?
