Single-Payer Hell: Daughter saves mother, 80, left by doctors to starve to death

Government-run healthcare does not lead to more choices, higher quality and lower costs. It leads to higher costs, bureaucratic red tape, diminishing quality and rationing. It also leads to absurd situations that from the outside sound medieval in nature. No government-run system embodies all that is wrong with the concept more than Britain's National Health Service (NHS). In Britain, under the barbaric NHS, liver cancer patients are denied life-saving drugs to save cost, babies born prematurely are left to die if they come out before a certain date, terminally ill patients are put on a fast track to death, patients with chest pains are sent home with pain pills only to die later that same day. The horror stories go on and on, such as the one's I have written about at the end of this post. BUT... NHS does have money to have violent child predators put on Viagra, and to irreversibly mutilate 12-year olds. Oh yeah - they also leave grandmas to die of starvation. From the U.K. Times Online via memeorandum: Daughter saves mother, 80, left by doctors to starve.

AN 80-year-old grandmother who doctors identified as terminally ill and left to starve to death has recovered after her outraged daughter intervened.

Hazel Fenton, from East Sussex, is alive nine months after medics ruled she had only days to live, withdrew her antibiotics and denied her artificial feeding. The former school matron had been placed on a controversial care plan intended to ease the last days of dying patients.

The ease isn't for the patient, nooooo. The ease is supposed to be for the system. As in it eases their costs. How medieval is this? The dark ages have been over for half a millenium, but NHS is bringing it back to Britain!

Doctors say Fenton is an example of patients who have been condemned to death on the Liverpool care pathway plan. They argue that while it is suitable for patients who do have only days to live, it is being used more widely in the NHS, denying treatment to elderly patients who are not dying.

Fenton’s daughter, Christine Ball, who had been looking after her mother before she was admitted to the Conquest hospital in Hastings, East Sussex, on January 11, says she had to fight hospital staff for weeks before her mother was taken off the plan and given artificial feeding.

Is anyone surprised by this? A daughter fighting much bureaucratic inertia to dave her mother's life, and even then it takes weeks! Pretty soon, citizens will have to literally break into hospitals armed with whatever weapons they can muster or improvise, to save family members from a horrifying and gruesome death by nameless, faceless bureaucrats who care not a wink for life. And this is what Obama and liberals want to install in the U.S?

  1. There's a very simple explanation to all this: what is the biggest obstacle to flourishing (and expensive) private health care? Why, a vibrant, functioning public health system of course! Why would anyone bother to sign up for private health if the public system worked well? So the first task of a free-market enslaved 'caretaker' government is to dismantle the public health system as far as possible and open the field for private companies to come in and snap up 'customers' - oops, patients. And while the ship's sinking there are the parasites who'll make the most of a good thing....
