Government to drought-stricken California: Farmers NO! Fish YES! 37,000 Jobs Lost! - Part 2

This story hasn't got much play, except for a single news channel. Back in early May, I reported another example of the government choosing animals over humans. The story concerns drought-stricken farmers who are being denied water for the simple reason that it might endanger minnows. I kid you not! That's the basis of it! From my prior post, NewsBusters had this: Drought-Stricken Farmers Lose Fight for Water to Endangered Fish.

On Friday’s Hannity show on FNC, correspondent Ainsley Earhardt filed an in depth report on the plight of farmers in California who are starving for water, exacerbated by a federal court which ordered that one of their sources of water be shut down due to fears that irrigation would harm an endangered species of fish, the delta smelt. Earhardt began: "California's Central Valley is considered by many to be the richest and most productive farmland in the nation. But this land is being threatened by the small, harmless-looking minnow called the delta smelt. Recently, it has landed on the endangered species list, causing a federal court to shut down vital pumps to farmers to help preserve it."

A shot was soon shown of Earhardt walking on dry ground that used to be a canal full of water until environmentalists convinced a federal court to shut off the water supply: "This was a canal full of gushing water irrigating the farmland here in the San Joaquin Valley. But as you can see, it is all dried up. The pumps were turned off after environmentalists won a federal court case."

The FNC correspondent soon relayed Republican Congressman Devin Nunes’ complaint that thousands of jobs have been threatened by the ruling: "Representative Nunes estimates that 37,000 jobs have been lost due to the smelt issue, and that number is rising higher by the day. And in one town in California, unemployment is up to an astonishing 40 percent."

Farmers don't have access to this water that runs right through the center of their farmland. It is being allocated to the delta smelt, a little fish protected by the Endangered Species Act. Conservationists say the smelt are dying in the irrigation pumps, so a judge ruled they must be shut off for much of the growing season."

This is not a unique story, unfortunately. A potent weapon that environazis (no soup for you!) are wielding these days is the the Endangered Species Act. They do this behind the scenes by adding as many species to the endangered list as possible to then go to court and shut down all industry in a certain area. The Endangered Species Act is, in essence, being hijacked by the environazis. No water for you! Judicial activism is sitting right there to help the cause out as much as possible.

Since that initial report almost a month and a half ago, Hannity over at FoxNews had a follow-up. Here's the vid:

NewsBuster follows up with this: Hannity Again Discusses California's Congress-created Dust Bowl.
The farms that supply much of America's produce are quickly becoming extinct.

On Friday, as I drove back from my southern California office north on I-5, I witnessed it firsthand seeing for myself what many are now calling the Congress-created Dust Bowl.

Of course, global warming obsessed media, when they bother to report this dire situation, typically blame the problem on California's drought.

Fortunately, Fox News viewers know the truth, as on Friday, for the second time in two months (see Brad Wilmouth's "FNC: Drought-Stricken Farmers Lose Fight for Water to Endangered Fish"), Sean Hannity informed the nation what the real cause is -- the Endangered Species Act and a federal judge's decision in August 2007 to save a little-known fish called the Delta smelt.
Thankfully, FoxNews is the most watched of all cable news channels. By far. Question is, will the rest of the MSM ever notice? Here's Hannity's original report back in may on this issue:

  1. The first I heard of this situation was on Hannity awhile ago. My concerns for my family's *food security*(to use a UN catch phrase) jumped into overdrive, as the governing body seems to wish to shut down a major food source for America.

I began prepping in earnest, although I have been a person who has looked ahead forever, this was pretty alarming...

With the corn being used for biofuels and even for organic kitty litter- I cannot fathom for the life of me a sound reason to close another source of food, unless it is intentional?

  2. Jennifer - the corn used for biofuels is unfit for human consumption, and is competing with that used for animal feed only, which indirectly can affect the price of meat, but not the corn that we eat. That being said, what the government is doing in Cal is despicable. We need more food, not less. Screw the fish! Better yet, eat 'em!

  3. I heard that it is now illegal to use lawnmowers that hurt grass and kill ants

  4. Blogprof - but the millions of acres of LAND that is being used to grow the bio-fuel corn is not being used for things like Wheat, Oats, Barley, etc. because of the gub-ment's penchant for ethanol.

That has a serious effect on the price of food.

  5. Most Environmentalists are unreasonable. These lawmakers should think hard first before letting stupid happenings like this go on.Last I looked unemployment was 10% in California.Does that matter?
